Printers & cash drawer

Connect a thermal printer to print receipts and kitchen tickets instantly — no print dialog — open the cash drawer automatically when a bill closes, brand your receipt, and choose the language it prints in.

Two ways to print

  • Direct (recommended) — connect a USB or serial thermal printer straight to FoodFlow. It prints silently with no dialog, opens the cash drawer, and can send each ticket to the right printer. Works with most thermal printers (Epson, Star, Xprinter, and generic 58/80 mm) in Chrome or Edge on a computer.
  • Kiosk printing — if you’d rather use a printer through its normal system driver, launch Chrome or Edge in kiosk-printing mode and FoodFlow’s receipts print without the dialog to your default printer. Drawers wired to that printer open through the driver.
Direct printing needs a desktop Chrome or Edge browser. On a tablet or an unsupported browser, FoodFlow falls back to the normal print window — nothing breaks.

Connect a printer

  1. Open Stations → Silent printing (this device).
  2. Next to Receipt / counter printer, click Connect USB (or Connect serial) and pick your printer in the browser prompt. You only grant this once per computer.
  3. Click Test print to confirm it works, then Open drawer to test the cash drawer.
  4. Repeat for the Kitchen printer if you have a separate one.
Printer connections are remembered on that specific computer, so set this up once on each till.

Cash drawer

When a receipt printer is connected, closing a bill kicks the drawer open automatically. Under Settings → Receipt you can turn this off, or limit it to cash payments only so the drawer stays shut for card and PromptPay.

Kitchen tickets

  1. When staff send items to the kitchen, the ticket prints to the kitchen printer automatically.
  2. Turn Also print a copy at the counter on to print the same ticket at the POS printer too.
  3. Only the newly sent course prints, marked ★ NEW ITEMS when it follows an earlier round — so the kitchen never re-cooks.

Brand your receipt

  1. Upload a logo — it prints at the top of every receipt.
  2. Add a custom info block for things like your Wi-Fi password, socials, or a promo — one line each.
  3. Set a header (address, phone) and a footer (“Thank you”), and choose 58 or 80 mm paper.
All of this lives under Settings → Receipt.

Print language

By default receipts and kitchen tickets print in whatever language the cashier’s app is set to. To fix them to one language — for example, a Thai kitchen ticket while the cashier works in English — pick a Print language under Settings → Receipt. Any language prints correctly, including Thai and Chinese.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing prints? Make sure you’re on desktop Chrome or Edge and have clicked Connectonce for that printer.
  • Printer unplugged or off shows an error — reconnect it and print again from the order.
  • No cash drawer movement? The drawer must be wired into the receipt printer; test it with Open drawer in Stations.
Receipt basics and taking payment are covered in Payments & receipts.
